High Performers, Achievers and Perfectionists!

You have seen the posts about the costs of the illusion that is PERFECTION.

I LOVE perfection, everything about it! The soothing and satisfying nature of it, NO niggley loose ends, skew lines, mismatched colours or shapes. The relief, excitement and amazement of something perfect is ADDICTIVE! Yes I am an ADDICT!

Envision it, a perfectly folded piece of paper…not one corner a millimeter off another, a perfectly mowed lawn…its alternating lanes of freshly mowed evenness, one dark and the next light all equally wide and long OR that perfect arrangement of brand new colour pencils…all the same length, perfectly sharpened and in rainbow order! I could go on and on…

As addictive as perfection is for me it has been equally crippling. We know the costs and some get present to them but they still weren’t enough for me to give it up until I was asked ONE simple question, “When will you ever meet your own standards?”

I reflected and realised I don’t expect others to be perfect or achieve perfect outcomes, just me. Not only am I addicted to Perfection but I had got hooked on Dissatisfaction to. Don’t get me wrong, my addiction to perfection has been the driver for much success in my life the COST was it didn’t matter how perfect or unachievable an achievement I had made was, it was NEVER enough and there was ALWAYS something more to strive for.

Ask yourself “When will you ever meet your own standards?” get present to the cost and hopefully this helps you as much as it did me.
